Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, sustain, encourage, and support ways in which the human needs of the world can effectively be addressed by members of the congregation.
  • Provide an overview of SSPC mission possibilities to session, recommend and justify a limited focus of organizations to support, including how much time and money is appropriate to make a difference, and obtain session approval. Educate the congregation and employ concentrated efforts throughout the year to emphasize the needs.
  • Oversee the involvement of the congregation and its members in ministry to those in need locally, nationally and globally.
  • Support local missions:
    • Consider how our building is, and can become a mission site.
    • Encourage and support those organizations who share our space to be effective in their meeting of human need.
    • Cooperate with, and explore support to ecumenical and interfaith agencies in our community such as Shepherd’s Table, MUSST, Community Ministry of Montgomery County, Habitat for Humanity, Interfaith Conference.
  • Support mission in the global community worldwide:
    • Consider the international flavor of our own congregation and where we want to invest money and interest.
    • Consider PCUSA Projects.
    • Consider Sister Church.
    • Consider Peacemaking initiatives
